Two-Way Broccoli Salad

4 cups small broccoli florets
1/4 to 1/2 cup red onion (to taste)
10 pieces of bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/2 to 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (to taste)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp cider vinegar
pepper

Toss the first 4 ingredients in a bowl. Combine the rest to make the dressing and toss with the salad. Refrigerate 3 hours before serving.

*Alternatively replace the bacon and cheese with 1 cup raisins and 1/4 to 1/2 cup sunflower seeds (to taste).
